About PRP Therapy
PRP therapy is used in sports medicine, orthopedics, oral surgery, and cosmetic surgery to expedite healing. PRP is a concentration of platelets, which play an essential role in your body's ability to repair itself. Recently, it has been discovered that PRP can cause hair to regrow in areas where thinning hair is starting to take place.
Are You a Candidate?
Treatment is most effective for patients who have begun experiencing hair loss within the last one to three years and are not candidates for surgical hair transplantation. However, patients who have experienced hair loss for more than ten years may not achieve optimal results.
With regular hair restoration treatments, you can achieve thicker, fuller-looking hair, in addition to boosted self-confidence.
Certain medical conditions, such as platelet dysfunction, acute and chronic infections, chronic liver disease, cancer, and chronic skin diseases may preclude patients from undergoing this procedure. Each patient will go through an extensive review process to determine candidacy.
During PRP hair restoration, one of our physicians will draw your blood and place it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. Once prepared, the PRP will be placed into a syringe. We utilize a three-prong approach for optimal results:
- First, an anesthetic cream is applied to the scalp to make the treatment more comfortable. Dr. Specht will then inject the PRP into your scalp to induce hair growth and strengthen existing hair follicles which will decrease hair loss. This stage of treatment can generally be completed in under an hour. Three additional treatments will be administered monthly for the next three months.
- Second, you can take Viviscal MD, twice a day. Viviscal is a daily dietary supplement containing a clinically proven marine complex, AminoMar, and Biotin, which promotes existing hair growth from within.
- Third, you can use Revivogen a shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment used for hair loss caused by the effects of DHT (dihydrotestosterone).
After six months, Dr. Specht will review your response to treatment. If you are responding well, treatments can be repeated once or twice a year to help maintain your results. With regular hair restoration treatments, you can achieve thicker, fuller hair, improving your appearance and boosting self-confidence.
